Brian is a veteran of the retirement space, having spent decades consulting in a wide range of functions including actuarial, investment, and administration roles. His consulting history has included strategic assignments involving both defined benefit and defined contribution plans.

Brian has given numerous speeches to audiences for the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, Society of Actuaries, and the National Federation of Municipal Analysts. He has contributed to research publications for the Harvard Kennedy School, the Urban Institute, the Global Aging Institute, the Civic Federation, and the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago. Brian also publishes a chapter in the 457-Answer Book focusing on the funding and governance of public retirement systems. Brian’s work with public pension plans has informed policy makers and legislators from coast to coast, including notable work in Connecticut, Jacksonville, Kentucky, Illinois, Nevada, and Philadelphia.

Earlier in Brian’s career, he focused on providing actuarial, compliance, and related benefits technology consulting services to Fortune 100 companies, and led dozens of projects for organizations in the telecom, banking, defense, media, and governmental sectors. Since 2011, Brian has focused on the needs of public retirement systems. He has been retained for benefit design, funding policy analysis, and stress testing involving dozens of public retirement systems.

Prior to starting Septon Strategies, Brian was a member of the Executive Team at The Terry Group. Brian has also held various leadership positions at October Three, Aon Hewitt, J.P. Morgan, and Chicago Consulting Actuaries.

Brian is active in the Chicago public policy community. Brian is a long-time board member and a Vice Chair of The Civic Federation, a non-partisan government research organization. He has also spent over a decade as a Special Advisor to the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago’s State Finance Task Force, assisting with actuarial and related policy positions. He is also an active member of the Economic Club of Chicago.

Brian is a member of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries AI Task Force. He is a past Chair of the Society of Actuaries Technology Section Council and a past member of the Strategic Planning Committee and Webinar Committee of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.

Brian is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, and an Enrolled Actuary. Brian is a graduate of the University of Illinois.
